From the 16th to the 19th century, all maps published by the Western countries recognized Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos with many different names such as Paracel Islands, Paracel, Paracels, Pracel, Parcels and Paracelso; and Hoang sa coast of Hoang Sa archipelagos is recognized as Costa da Paracel. This proves that since the 16th century, many Westerners have recognized Hoang Sa archipelago as a part of Viet Nam's territory, the country they usually call Cochinchine, Cochinchina, or Cochi-China.
