Model of the sovereignty stele of the Hoang Sa archipelago during the French colonial period built on the Hoang Sa archipelago.
As Viet Nam’s representative in terms of foreign affairs at that time, France, on behalf of Viet Nam, continuously exercised Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago. France built facilities on the Hoang Sa archipelago such as lighthouses, meteorological stations, broadcasting stations, radio stations, etc. In June 1938, France erected a stone sovereignty stele which inscribed: “République Française - Empire d'Annam - Archipels des Paracels 1816 - Île de Pattle 1938” (French Republic - An Nam Empire - Hoang Sa Archipelago 1816 - Hoang Sa Island 1938). In 2020, the Sovereign Stele model was restored at the Museum of Paracel Island.
