The collection of seashells of Central Viet Nam
In 2020, the Museum of Paracel Islands exhibited a collection of seashells of Central Viet Nam including more than 1,000 types of seashells, with the diversity in size, shape, and color. In particular, there are many species of snails and clams living in Hoang Sa waters such as Natica Maculosa, Babylonia Areolata, Tridacna Gigas, Turbinidae, etc. Some species are rare such as Argonauta Argo, Chambered Nautilus, etc.
The activity of collecting seashells not only contributes to enriching the museum experience, but also reflects the love of the seas and islands, associated with the love of the homeland of fishermen, that in turn raises awareness of protecting sovereignty over the homeland’s sea and islands.
The Museum of Paracel Islands uses sea shells to create a picture in the shape of the country of Viet Nam with the two archipelagos Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, and fossil shells are arranged into 3 regions of the country. All create a colorful picture of the country's rich and precious natural resources that we need to preserve and protect.
