The Lighthouse was built by France on Hoang Sa Island.
As Viet Nam’s representative in terms of foreign affairs at that time, France, on behalf of Viet Nam, continuously exercised Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago. France built facilities on the Hoang Sa archipelago such as meteorological stations, broadcasting stations, radio stations, etc. On October 26, 1937, the ship Paul Bert and the ship Astrolabe transported people and materials to build the Hoang Sa lighthouse. The lighthouse tower was constructed by casting concrete on coral sand, which was able to withstand storms. The lamp was lit continuously for 6 months by using gas, the luminous range of the lighthouse is 12 nautical miles in normal weather conditions. Since October 29, 1937, the Hoang Sa lighthouse has been also known as the La Marne lighthouse. In 2020, The Lihgthouse model was restored at the Museum of Paracel Island.
